Wasim Akram Gives Crucial Advice to Shaheen Afridi Against Shubman Gill for Today’s Match

21 September, 2025 11:30

Dubai: Former Pakistan captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has given crucial advice to pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi ahead of the high-voltage Pakistan-India clash in the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four stage.

Speaking about strategy, Akram emphasized that Shaheen must bowl smartly against Indian opener and vice-captain Shubman Gill. He advised Afridi to adopt a specific plan instead of relying solely on his usual yorkers.

Citing the recent India-Oman encounter, Akram recalled how Omani fast bowler Shah Faisal dismissed Gill with a late-swing full-length delivery. He urged Afridi to apply a similar tactic in the upcoming match.

Highlighting the need for variation, Akram said the cricketing world already knows that Shaheen opens with yorkers, making him predictable. “One yorker is fine, but not continuously. If Shaheen keeps depending on them, it could create problems. He should focus on length and variety instead of putting pressure on himself by trying to take a wicket with every ball,” Akram stressed.

It is worth noting that in the group stage, India had defeated Pakistan by seven wickets.
