Sindh Govt to Launch “Pink Taxi” Service for Women
The Sindh government is set to roll out a new “Pink Taxi” service exclusively for women, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari announced on Thursday.
Speaking at a ceremony in Karachi where free electric Pink Scooters were distributed among women, Bilawal highlighted that the upcoming initiative is part of broader efforts to ensure safer and more convenient transport facilities for female commuters.
“This is just the start,” Bilawal said. “Soon, we will organize another event to launch Pink Taxis for women.”
He pointed out that Sindh had already pioneered women-only transport services with the introduction of electric buses and the Pink Bus in Karachi, making it the first province to provide such dedicated facilities.
At the event, Bilawal personally handed over keys of the Pink Scooters to women, explaining that the program was designed to ease daily travel challenges for female students and working professionals.
He also noted that the provincial government had recently introduced the Benazir Hari Card scheme to support small farmers affected by floods.
Bilawal emphasized that women’s empowerment lies at the heart of Sindh’s development agenda, adding that the country’s overall progress is impossible without the active participation of women in every sector.
