Shehbaz Sharif Endorses Trump 20 Point Plan for Peace
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has welcomed US President Donald Trump’s new peace plan to stop the war in Gaza. He said the plan could help bring peace to the region and improve political and economic conditions.
Shehbaz Sharif shared his thoughts on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying that Trump’s 20-point plan is a positive step toward ending the conflict. He also said that long-term peace between Palestinians and Israel depends on a two-state solution. The Prime Minister praised US envoy Steve Witkoff for helping create the proposal.
President Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House to discuss the peace plan. Trump said he is very confident that the war in Gaza can end soon. The plan suggests a ceasefire, release of hostages, and the rebuilding of Gaza with help from international donors. It also includes a step-by-step withdrawal of Israeli forces and does not involve Hamas in the future government of Gaza. Instead, the Palestinian Authority and peacekeepers from Arab and Muslim countries would manage the area.
Although Israel did not help write the plan, Trump shared the details with Netanyahu. Earlier this month, Trump also met leaders from countries like Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, and others during the United Nations General Assembly. He told them that freeing hostages must be a top priority.
PM Shehbaz, while talking to Pakistani journalists in London, said that the talks were very positive and he hopes a ceasefire will be announced soon.
The White House said Israel and Hamas are very close to agreeing on a deal. Trump is also planning more talks with Qatar, which has been acting as a middleman with Hamas. Some Arab countries support the plan, but a few want changes. For example, Egypt wants to make sure the Palestinian Authority is not left out of Gaza’s future leadership. Others are worried about whether Israel will follow the deal after the hostages are released.
In Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu is facing pressure from the public and the families of hostages. However, some ministers in his government are against making too many compromises.
The plan is not yet final and is more like a guide for future discussions. US officials say they are working hard to get both sides to agree on a ceasefire.
Meanwhile, the situation in Gaza remains very serious. The Palestinian Health Ministry said that at least 50 people were killed in Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours. The total number of deaths since October 7, 2023, has reached 66,055, and more than 168,000 people have been injured. Israeli tanks are also moving deeper into Gaza City as the fighting continues.
Despite the violence, there is still hope that talks can lead to peace in the coming days.
