Heavy Rains Expected Across Pakistan from Today, Alert Issued

02 October, 2025 11:16

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert, warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in various parts of the country starting today. While hot and dry weather is expected to persist across most regions, the northern and central areas are likely to experience significant rainfall.

According to the PMD, “partly cloudy conditions are expected in upper and central Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, Pothohar region, and southern Sindh, with chances of rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds at isolated places.”

In Islamabad, “thunderstorms with rain are expected at a few locations,” while Pothohar, Murree, and Galiyat may also receive light to moderate showers.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been placed under a rain alert from today until October 7. Districts including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Peshawar, Kohat, Malakand, and Bajaur are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and gusty winds.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa warned that “there is a possibility of torrential rains from today in several regions, which may lead to rising water levels in streams and rivers, as well as potential landslides in hilly areas.” Road closures are also a concern.

Light to moderate rainfall is also expected in Mohmand, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber, Orakzai, Hangu, and Kurram districts.

In Balochistan, weather conditions will largely remain hot and dry, with no significant rainfall predicted.

Meanwhile, parts of Sindh — including Hyderabad, Dadu, Badin, Mithi, Mirpurkhas, Karachi, Sujawal, and Thatta — are likely to experience “rain with thunderstorms,” according to the forecast.

Northern areas such as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan may also receive isolated rain accompanied by thunder.

In Punjab, the PDMA has issued a rain alert for most districts between October 5 and 7. “Heavy rainfall may lead to increased water flow in rivers and associated streams,” said a PDMA spokesperson, urging caution in flood-prone areas.

In the last 24 hours, most regions experienced hot and dry weather. However, parts of lower and central Sindh and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received localized rain with strong winds and thunderstorms.

The public is advised to stay updated with official weather reports and take necessary precautions, especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides.
