India Using Afghanistan as Base to Launch Terror Attacks Inside Pakistan: DG ISPR
PESHAWAR: DG ISPR Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry has said that India is using Afghanistan as a base for terrorism in Pakista Addressing a press conference, DG ISPR said that the Terrorists have safe havens in Afghanistan, and the Foreign weapons were recovered from the foreigners killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He noted, “The presence of American weapons in the hands of terrorists is also a major reason for terrorism. Instead of sending illegal Afghans back, confusion is being created. Misleading narratives have weakened operations against terrorists.” He added, “Our children are sacrificing their lives in the war against terrorism. A false narrative is being built against the ongoing operations against terrorism. Behind terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is a political and criminal nexus.” DG ISPR stated, “The Pakistan Armed Forces are determined to eliminate terrorism. The scourge of terrorism must be uprooted completely.” He disclosed that Pakistan has been combating terrorism for more than two decades. “In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 14,535 operations were conducted in 2024,” DG ISPR said. DG ISPR revealed that the operations against terrorists are conducted based on intelligence reports. This year, 516 people were martyred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as per Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry. DG ISPR added, “272 soldiers of the Pakistan Army and 140 police personnel were martyred. The number of foreign terrorists killed this year is the highest in the last ten years.” He said, ” This year, 40 operations were carried out daily in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Terrorists and their facilitators were given space under a well-thought-out plan. Terrorists used 30 Afghan suicide bombers in the last two years.” DG ISPR highlighted the factors behind terrorism, stating, “What are the factors behind the existence of terrorism? The increase in terrorism is due to the incomplete implementation of the National Action Plan. Is dialogue the solution to every problem?” DG ISPR added, “It is important to understand the factors that cause terrorism. One reason is the lack of complete implementation of all points of the National Action Plan. The second reason is politicizing the issue of terrorism and confusing the nation, says the Pakistan Army spokesperson.” DG ISPR stated that Governance in the province was deliberately weakened. According to him, if every problem could be solved through dialogue, there would have been no battles. DG ISPR further added that the Pakistan Armed Forces are the true guarantors of the security of the Pakistani people. On October 10, 2025, the Director General ISPR added about the growing threat posed by non-state actors operating from Afghanistan. He revealed that foreign weapons had been recovered from militants killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), which had been illegally brought to terrorists. The army spokesperson highlighted that confusion around illegal Afghan immigrants is weakening the fight against terrorism in Pakistan. Afghan nationals are sometimes being used for political reasons, and many are involved in criminal activities. Lieutenant General Chaudhry explained that thousands of vehicles running without customs clearance are being used in terrorist activities, and narcotics are also being smuggled across the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. He assured that the state and its people are not alone in this struggle and emphasized that the army will stand firmly against terrorism. He declared that the old “status quo” would no longer be accepted and that search and rescue teams will be deployed when necessary. The ISPR spokesperson warned that terrorists will face increasing pressure, and anyone supporting foreign militants will be dealt with firmly. While the Pakistan-Afghanistan border remains open for trade and travel, both countries have been warned not to allow their land to be used by terrorists. The DG ISPR also reminded the public that army soldiers are the nation’s own children sacrificing their lives, and their sacrifices should never be exploited for political gain. He called for honesty and unity in the fight against terrorism. Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry further explained that non-state actors in Afghanistan have no fixed religion or ideology and frequently change their group membership. He compared terrorists sheltered by any state or group to snakes, which are dangerous and unpredictable. These terrorists can eventually become a threat even to the countries that protect them. The ISPR urged the Afghan government to take responsibility and decide how to handle these non-state actors operating within their borders. Pakistan has hosted millions of Afghan refugees for more than four decades, but it warned that land used by terrorists and their facilitators would be restricted. The military also pointed out that terrorists target innocent people for money and that extremist groups mislead children by spreading false interpretations of Islam. The spokesperson questioned who would take responsibility for stopping this dangerous influence and whether it should be only the army’s duty. Pakistan’s institutions will not tolerate any cooperation with terrorist groups, and the military asked who really guarantees Pakistan’s security, hinting that it does not lie with Kabul. These statements highlight Pakistan’s long-standing concerns about militant groups operating across the Afghanistan border. The ISPR is calling on Afghan authorities to take action and addressing worries about security, child radicalization, and cross-border militancy. General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has emphasized that the military has no personal or political connection with the state, but only a professional and official one. Speaking to the media, the DG ISPR said that all federal institutions and the government are functioning as per the Constitution. He expressed concern about the trend of making baseless accusations in Pakistan, contrasting it with a recent case in the UK where a person was punished for a false accusation. “Can you name any such example in Pakistan?” he asked. Addressing the issue of anti-terrorism funding, the army spokesperson questioned where the funds received for counter-terror efforts are being spent. He stressed that all political parties and politicians are respected by the army and urged that the military should be kept away from political debates and misleading propaganda. “We will continue to assist the public and follow state orders. The state makes decisions; institutions only provide input,” the DG ISPR clarified. Regarding the events of May 9, he said that those involved are now facing the consequences of their actions. “May 9 is not just a case of the Pakistan Army, it is a matter for the entire nation,” he said. He added that leadership opposed to the state cannot be imposed on the people. The military also made it clear that it will not be influenced by political drama or distractions. “We will not abandon our responsibilities due to political tricks,” the DG ISPR stated firmly.
