Battlefield 6 breaks steam records with 747,000 players on launch day

Battlefield 6 has made an explosive debut, marking one of the biggest launches in the franchise’s history. According to SteamDB, the game hit 747,440 concurrent players within just a few hours of release, making it the second most-played game on Steam, right behind Counter-Strike 2. It has also become the 14th most-played game ever on the platform, closing in on Baldur’s Gate 3.

Record-Breaking Launch

The launch numbers have shattered all previous records for the Battlefield series. The open beta for Battlefield 6 had already set a record with 521,079 concurrent players, but the full release has gone far beyond that milestone. No earlier Battlefield title has seen this level of success on Steam.

What Makes Battlefield 6 Special

Battlefield 6 is a large-scale, first-person shooter that focuses on massive battles across dynamic and destructible maps. The game combines infantry combat, vehicle warfare, and team coordination to create huge, unpredictable fights.
It also features a Portal mode, which allows players to design and share their own maps and game modes. This creative freedom, along with its open-world style of combat, sets it apart from other shooters like Call of Duty and Counter-Strike, which focus more on small, competitive matches.

Breaking EA and FPS Records

The game’s success is a huge win for Electronic Arts (EA). It even surpassed Apex Legends, EA’s previous record-holder on Steam — and that’s despite Battlefield 6 being a paid game, while Apex Legends is free-to-play.
Battlefield 6 has also outperformed its main rival, Call of Duty, which peaked at 491,670 concurrent players. The actual number of Battlefield 6 players could be much higher when including PlayStation and Xbox users.

A Strong Start and Active Community

The huge number of players has caused some short server queues, but login times remain fast. Early feedback suggests that Battlefield 6 is both a commercial and community success.

Players are already using the Portal mode to recreate classic maps — one fan even rebuilt Modern Warfare’s famous “Shipment” map.

The community has also begun sharing reviews, guides, and gameplay tips, covering everything from best loadouts to graphics settings. With this level of excitement, Battlefield 6 seems set to be one of EA’s biggest hits in years.
