PM Shehbaz warns against misusing 48-hour ceasefire with Afghanistan
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has warned that Pakistan will not tolerate any misuse of the 48-hour ceasefire agreed with Afghanistanβs Taliban government. He said the Taliban should not use the temporary truce as a tactic to gain time.
The prime minister shared that the Afghan Taliban had requested the ceasefire on Tuesday after Pakistanβs precise military strikes in Kabul and Kandahar caused heavy losses to their side.
He added that this was not the first time such a request came β a similar appeal was made earlier on Sunday following Pakistanβs swift and strong response along the border.
Shehbaz Sharif also mentioned that diplomatic efforts are ongoing to reduce tensions. He appreciated Qatarβs role in helping both sides find a peaceful and fair solution.
His statement came after Qatari Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, spoke with Pakistanβs Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday to discuss the regional security situation.
Earlier, security forces successfully stopped an infiltration attempt by militants in the Mohmand district, killing between 45 and 50 Khwarij during a major operation, according to security sources.
The operation was launched based on intelligence reports, targeting a large group of militants trying to enter Pakistan from Afghanistan. Security officials said several militants were also injured during the exchange of fire.
The Pakistan Army surrounded the area and started a full clearance operation, which continued for several hours. According to the footage shared by security sources, the movement of militants was spotted before the operation began.
The killed militants had reportedly come from Afghanistan with plans to carry out terrorist attacks inside Pakistan.
