Court Notices Issued Over Petition Against Indecent Clothing and Video Recording in Faisal Mosque
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to several government entities following a petition requesting regulatory measures against inappropriate behavior and attire within the Faisal Mosque.
According to Express News, notices have been dispatched to the Faisal Mosque administration, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, the Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), and the Ministry of Religious Affairs. Additionally, the President of the International Islamic University, the Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad Police, and the State have been directed to submit their responses to the court.
The petition, filed by citizen Musharraf Zain, was heard by Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir. Musharraf Zain appeared in court along with his legal counsel. During proceedings, the court sought clarification on the primary addressee of its directives, to which the petitioner’s lawyer responded that the Faisal Mosque administration held principal responsibility, while other authorities had been named as respondents.
The petition emphasized that multiple videos circulating on social media depict individuals engaging in indecorous activities, including dancing and filming videos with background music, inside the mosque premises, thereby compromising its sanctity.
The petitioner contended that such conduct — including entry in revealing or inappropriate attire — desecrates a revered place of worship and undermines the dignity of one of Pakistan’s most prominent religious landmarks. He further highlighted that this behavior is inconsistent with Article 20 of the Constitution, which ensures the right to religious freedom while mandating respect for places of worship.
It was also noted that formal written complaints regarding these incidents had previously been submitted to the mosque administration, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad, and the CDA chairman, yet no remedial action had been taken. Similar complaints had been sent to the Minister of Religious Affairs, the President of the International Islamic University, and the IG Islamabad.
The petition seeks a judicial directive to legally prohibit entry into Faisal Mosque by individuals in indecent attire and to ban the recording of videos involving music or dance within its premises.
