Iran Willing to Engage in Diplomacy with US on Equal Terms
Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Iran is ready to engage in diplomacy with the United States to reach a “wise solution” to the nuclear issue based on mutual respect and equality.
In an interview published on Saturday, Araghchi stressed that Iran has never abandoned diplomacy and is prepared to resume talks if the US shows serious and genuine intent for a mutually beneficial agreement.
“We will not compromise on the rights of the Iranian people or tolerate bullying, but we are open to any wise and respectful solution,” he said.
The foreign minister clarified that Iran does not seek nuclear weapons, saying the country’s strength lies in its independence and ability to resist pressure since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Araghchi revealed that Iran and the US had already held five rounds of nuclear talks, with a sixth planned for June 15, but it was delayed after Israel launched a surprise attack on Iran on June 13, triggering a 12-day conflict.
During the war, he said, Iran’s armed forces defended the country and responded with missile strikes on Israeli and US military targets in the region, eventually forcing a halt to the assault on June 24.
“Preparedness is the key to preventing war,” Araghchi said, adding that Iran will respond firmly to any future aggression.
He reaffirmed that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful and legal, insisting that uranium enrichment is Iran’s right under international law.
Araghchi criticized Washington’s “hegemonic approach” and preconditions for talks, saying Iran will only respond to respect, not pressure or sanctions.
“If the US speaks with dignity and respect, it will receive the same response,” he concluded.
