India Soaked in Farmers’ Blood: The Dark Side of Modi’s ‘Shining India’

28 October, 2025 11:00

Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule, India’s image of “Shining India” has been overshadowed by growing injustice, political oppression, and violence against farmers, according to recent reports.

Farmers across India are facing not only economic hardship but also political persecution, as incidents of violence and land grabbing continue to rise under the current government.

According to a report by the Indian magazine India Today, a shocking case of brutality took place in Ganeshpura village of Madhya Pradesh, where a BJP leader ran over a farmer with a jeep after the victim refused to sell his land.

The accused, identified as Mahendra Nagar, along with his associates, allegedly beat farmer Ram Swaroop with sticks, assaulted women, and fired gunshots during the attack, India Today reported.

Witnesses said the group also prevented locals from taking the injured farmer to the hospital at gunpoint.

Residents of Ganeshpura told reporters that BJP leaders have been intimidating farmers, forcing at least 25 of them to sell their land at extremely low prices or leave the village altogether.

Opposition Congress MLA Rishi Agrawal condemned the Modi government, accusing it of encouraging violence, corruption, and sexual assault under BJP protection in Madhya Pradesh.

He said the government’s failed economic policies have driven India’s farmers into a cycle of debt, hunger, and suicides, exposing the harsh reality behind Modi’s claims of a prosperous and “New India.”
