DIG Traffic’s Car Fined Under New E-Challan System in Karachi
Karachi: The city has officially begun automated actions under its new faceless e-challan system, aimed at enforcing traffic rules through digital monitoring.
On just the second day of the system’s launch, Traffic DIG Peer Muhammad Shah’s official vehicle was fined for violating traffic rules. According to sources, the vehicle was issued a Rs10,000 fine and two demerit points for the driver’s failure to wear a seatbelt.
The violation was recorded by cameras on Lyari Expressway’s Garden area, where the car was detected automatically. The vehicle is registered under the Inspector General (IG) Sindh’s name, and the challan was issued on October 28, with November 19 as the payment deadline.
Speaking to the media, DIG Peer Muhammad Shah confirmed the fine, saying, “Yes, my vehicle was challaned. My driver was using the car and did not fasten the seatbelt.”
Officials revealed that within 24 hours of the system’s second day, 4,301 more citizens received e-challans for various traffic violations.
Traffic Police said the new e-challan system is designed to ensure transparency, accountability, and public awareness about following traffic laws in Karachi.
