President Zardari Calls Gilgit-Baltistan “My Home” on 78th Independence Day

Gilgit: President Asif Ali Zardari said on Wednesday that Gilgit-Baltistan is his home, and the sacrifices of its people are a bright chapter in Pakistan’s history.

The region is celebrating its 78th Independence Day, marking freedom from Dogra rule on November 1, 1947. A central ceremony was held with President Zardari as the chief guest.

The event began with the national anthem and flag-raising. Governor Syed Mehdi Shah and Chief Minister Haji Gilber Khan welcomed the president and presented him with a traditional cap.

President Zardari inspected the parade and paid tribute to the martyrs of independence. In his speech, he praised the courage and sacrifices of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, noting their role in joining Pakistan in 1947.

He also highlighted the ongoing issues in Kashmir, saying India is reducing Muslim majorities and that Kashmir remains under Indian control. He called for a solution in line with UN resolutions.

The president stressed education and development in Gilgit-Baltistan, saying every valley should have schools. He noted the region’s unique natural resources and tourism potential, calling for further investment.
