New York Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani Declares: No Place for Islamophobia

New York: Newly elected New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani delivered an emotional and historic victory speech after becoming the first Muslim and Democratic Socialist to lead America’s largest city.

“I am deeply grateful to the people of New York for their trust and for giving me this opportunity,” Mamdani said to a cheering crowd. “Today is a victory for democracy — the people have spoken, and they have delivered change.”

In his speech, Mamdani said that his win represents the triumph of hope over fear. “Today, fear has lost and hope has won,” he declared. He thanked the citizens of New York for their faith in him and said, “My victory belongs to the people of New York — this city is theirs, and democracy is theirs.”

He announced that he will take the oath of office on January 1, marking the start of what he called “a new chapter for this city.” Mamdani said his campaign had ended the era of dynastic politics in New York and opened the door to new leadership driven by the people. “We have made history together,” he said.

The 34-year-old mayor-elect praised his supporters and campaign volunteers for their sacrifices, saying that the past twelve months had been “a journey of hope, struggle, and belief in a better city.”

Rejecting hate and division, Mamdani said there was no place for Islamophobia in New York. “We will not allow anyone to divide the people or spread hatred,” he stated firmly. “I am Muslim, I am a Democratic Socialist, and I am proud of both.”

Mamdani also sent a message to former U.S. President Donald Trump, who had opposed his candidacy. “Let Trump hear this — New York is and will remain a city of immigrants. It’s immigrants who keep this city running,” he said.

Vowing to fight corruption and protect democracy, Mamdani promised to serve the people faithfully “because I am one of them.” He said New York had become “a light in a time of political darkness,” adding, “If there’s any city that can stand up to Trump, it’s New York City.”

Ending his speech, Mamdani promised a new beginning for New York, based on unity, equality, and justice. “Hope is life,” he said. “The people of New York have made the impossible possible.”
