Karachi’s University Road will be closed from November 10 to December 30 for the installation of water pipelines under the Karachi Water and Sewerage System Improvement Project (KWSSIP), officials announced on Sunday. The closure is part of the K-4 water supply scheme, aimed at upgrading the city’s water distribution network.
The road closure will affect traffic between NIPA Chowrangi and Federal Urdu University, where a 2.7-kilometer stretch of water pipelines, including 96-inch and 72-inch lines, will be laid. The first phase of the project will focus on the section from NIPA Chowrangi to Federal Urdu University, while the second phase will extend from Hasan Square to NIPA Chowrangi.
To mitigate traffic disruptions, vehicles will be diverted via NIPA Chowrangi toward Aladin Park. Commuters have been urged to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate with the authorities during the construction period.
The KWSSIP is a key part of Karachi’s K-4 water supply initiative, designed to improve the city’s water infrastructure. However, the area is already experiencing significant traffic challenges, with commuters facing difficulties due to the ongoing construction of the BRT project, which has been underway for the past three years.
