No one believes in Marcus Mariota quite like his wife, Kiyomi Cook.
“I don’t like to say I ever get nervous,” Cook said during the first season of Netflix’s docuseries Quarterback, which premiered in 2023. “To me, if you can get the ball in Marcus’ hand, I always believe that there’s a chance.”
The Washington Commanders quarterback, selected as the No. 2 overall pick by the Tennessee Titans in the 2015 NFL Draft, met Cook in 2014 while both were students at the University of Oregon. Mariota played football, and Cook was a midfielder for the women’s soccer team. They went public with their relationship in 2015 at an NFL Draft party in Honolulu. Mariota proposed in 2020, and they married in 2021. The couple welcomed their daughter, Makaia, in December 2022.
Cook, born in 1993 in Gresham, Oregon, attended Sam Barlow High School, excelling in soccer and earning all-state and all-conference honors. She went on to study human physiology and psychology at the University of Oregon and earned a master’s degree in exercise and nutrition science at Lipscomb University in Nashville. After college, she worked as a soccer coach in Nashville from 2015 to 2020.
Beyond family life, Cook actively supports her husband’s Motiv8 Foundation, serving as its social media director and volunteering in community initiatives, such as Habitat for Humanity. “I just like to be a part of the community and this is a great way to get involved,” Mariota said.
The couple maintains a relatively private life, often sharing glimpses on social media of their daughter and two dogs. From beach walks to matching Christmas pajamas, Mariota and Cook continue to balance family, charity, and life in the public eye.
