Punjab Police on High Alert as Security Tightened at Courts and Key Sites
In response to the recent suicide attack in Islamabad that killed 11 people and injured 36, Punjab’s Inspector General of Police (IGP) Usman Anwar announced on Wednesday that security measures have been intensified across the province. Security personnel have been placed on high alert, particularly at key sites, including courts, judicial complexes, and other sensitive locations.
The enhanced security measures were prompted by the explosion on Tuesday, which raised concerns over the safety of public institutions. “Security personnel have been placed on high alert across the province, including the courts, in response to the current security situation,” stated IGP Usman Anwar in his official statement.
Increased Security at Courts and Judicial Complexes
As part of the increased security protocol, surveillance and protection efforts have been strengthened at courts, judges’ residences, and various judicial facilities. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) is overseeing ongoing search operations on critical routes and sensitive sites to ensure maximum safety.
IGP Anwar confirmed that a comprehensive security audit had already been conducted for key judicial complexes, Chinese projects, and residential areas in the province. “The security of judicial complexes has been thoroughly reviewed,” he added. A foolproof security plan has been put in place for judges, bar representatives, and other related institutions.
New Security Measures at Judicial Complexes
To further enhance security, a vehicle sticker system will be implemented for all vehicles entering judicial complexes. Regular search-and-sweep operations will also be carried out along pathways frequently used by judges and judicial personnel. These measures are designed to prevent any unauthorized access and provide better protection for those working in these areas.
“Necessary precautions are being taken to ensure the safety of judicial personnel and sensitive locations across the province,” IGP Anwar affirmed. These measures are part of a broader effort to address potential threats and safeguard critical infrastructure in Punjab.
Security Enhancements at Islamabad Courts
Meanwhile, a separate security meeting was held at the Islamabad District Courts Complex to review and improve security arrangements. The meeting, attended by senior judges and key officials, focused on several new security protocols aimed at strengthening safety at the complex.
Key decisions taken during the meeting included the installation of walk-through gates and scanners at the complex’s main entrance. All items entering the premises will now undergo strict scanning. Additionally, zigzag barriers will be installed at the entry gate to control access, and snipers will be deployed on rooftops to ensure enhanced surveillance.
As part of the updated security measures, lawyers will undergo emergency preparedness training, and Special Branch personnel will be stationed at the main gate to carry out checks. An ambulance will also be permanently stationed outside the complex for quick response in case of any emergencies. In a bid to reduce distractions and ensure efficiency, it was also proposed that mobile phones be prohibited for on-duty security personnel, except for necessary communication.
