Iran Tells UN: Hold US Accountable for Backing Israeli Attacks
Tehran: Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has sent a formal letter to the United Nations Security Council, accusing the United States of supporting and directing Israeli military attacks against Iran in June.
In the letter, addressed to the UN Secretary-General on Tuesday, Araghchi referred to a recent statement by US President Donald Trump, who said on November 6 that he was “in charge” of Israel’s strikes on Iran. Araghchi said this statement clearly shows that the attacks were carried out under US supervision.
He added that the strikes, which took place between June 13 and 24, targeted Iranian civilians, infrastructure, and peaceful nuclear facilities monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). According to Iran, more than 1,100 people were killed and many others injured.
The foreign minister stated that the attacks violated international law, including Article 2(4) of the UN Charter, IAEA resolutions, and UN Security Council Resolution 487 (1981).
Araghchi said both the US and Israel are responsible for the attacks and called on Washington to pay full compensation for the damage caused. He also accused President Trump and other US officials of committing war crimes, including attacks on civilians, hospitals, media centers, and energy facilities.
The letter said that Iran “reserves its full right” to pursue legal action to hold all responsible states and individuals accountable and to seek compensation.
Araghchi urged the UN Secretary-General and Security Council to take action and ensure that those behind the attacks face justice. He also requested that the letter be circulated as an official UN document.
