Srinagar Police Station Compound Blast Leaves Several Dead, Injured
Srinagar: A sudden explosion inside the compound of a police station in Srinagar caused panic in the area on Friday morning.
According to Indian media, the blast occurred when a large amount of seized ammonium nitrate stored in the compound suddenly exploded. The impact of the blast was powerful enough to ignite a fire in the police station and shatter windows of nearby buildings.
Rescue and fire brigade teams quickly reached the site and began efforts to control the fire.
Officials confirmed that several people were killed and injured, including police personnel. The injured have been taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Initial reports say the ammonium nitrate had been seized in connection with a case and was being kept in the compound. Authorities have started an investigation to determine the cause of the sudden explosion.
Police have cordoned off the area and begun collecting evidence. Officials stated that more details will be shared once the investigation progresses.
