Don’t Use This Cough Syrup, Says Health Authorities
The Punjab Drug Control Authority (PDCA) has issued a critical health warning, declaring several batches of medicines, including a popular cough syrup, as substandard and unsafe for consumption. Authorities have ordered the immediate recall of these products and halted their sale across the province.
According to the official alert, dealers, wholesalers, and retailers must return the affected items without delay. Among the flagged products is the “Erocof” cough syrup, which was found to contain dangerously high levels of diethylene glycol, a toxic substance. Other medicines, such as “Loratadine Tablets 10 mg,” have also been included in the recall list due to safety concerns.
Health experts have raised alarms over the rising number of patients reporting colds, coughs, dengue, and malaria, emphasizing that public safety should be prioritized. “Erocof” cough syrup and the recalled medications pose serious health risks if consumed.
Officials have also issued precautionary guidelines, advising the public to avoid close contact with infected individuals, maintain physical distance, and wear masks to curb the spread of respiratory infections. Boosting immunity through a balanced and nutritious diet was highlighted as another key preventive measure.
The PDCA reiterated that the safety of consumers remains its top priority and urged everyone to remain vigilant regarding substandard or counterfeit medicines.
