Guy Fieri Opens Up About His Near-Death Experience and On-Set Accident

Guy Fieri recently talked about his emergency surgery after he missed a step and tore his quad muscle. He said he is now using a wheelchair and crutches to get around. Fieri was rushed into surgery quickly to prevent his muscle from “shrinking,” and his doctor told him that it was the worst quad tear he’d seen in 20 years of practice.

Guy explained that he slipped on some stairs, and when one foot went forward and the other got caught, it stretched him out. He said it looked like he was doing the splits, and when his leg compressed, the muscle tore badly.

Fieri was filming his show Flavour Town Food Fight at the time. He said that normally, the muscle tears at the tendon or the tendon pulls away from the bone, but his tear was right in the middle of the muscle. The muscle “exploded.”

Even with 125 people on set, Fieri had to go into surgery, but they managed to adjust the filming plan with some creative techniques. Now, he’s recovering at his ranch and looking forward to outdoor activities.

Because the recovery might take up to eight weeks, his son and nephew will take over the cooking for Thanksgiving this year. Fieri said, “I’ve got my three boys—Hunter, Ryder, and Jules—and they all know how to cook. So, I’ll be guiding them from my wheelchair as we cook for about 40 people.”

Fieri also shared that he has had other serious injuries in the past. When he was 10, he was injured while horseback riding, which damaged his heart and liver. Then, at 19, he was in a severe car crash while in college. Though he wasn’t driving, the crash killed the person sitting next to him, and Guy was airlifted to the hospital.

In addition to his physical injuries, Guy Fieri has faced deep personal loss. His sister, Morgan, passed away from cancer, and his father, Him Ferry, died of pancreatic cancer in 2024. Despite these challenges, Guy has remained strong and continues to focus on his family and career. He has been married to Lori Fieri since 1995, and they have two sons.
