First Ever Ibex Trophy Hunting Completed in Askole, Marking New Opportunities for Local Community

First Ever Ibex Trophy Hunting Completed in Askole
The first-ever Ibex Trophy Hunting in Askole Shigar has been successfully completed, organized by Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP), marking a significant milestone for the local community. Officials and residents describe the event as the beginning of a sustainable income model that could support both community development and wildlife conservation in the region.
The introduction of trophy hunting is expected to encourage better protection of local wildlife, as income generated from hunting permits can be reinvested into conservation programs and community welfare initiatives. Local leaders hope this approach will help improve the economic conditions of the area while preserving its natural resources.
A resident of Shigar emphasized that if the people of Askole and Baraldo recognize the true value of their region and promote it globally, Gilgit-Baltistan has the potential to become the top tourist destination in Pakistan. The valleys of Askole and Baraldo are home to Pakistan’s highest peaks and largest glaciers, along with rich wildlife and a strategic boundary with China.
He added that the people of Baraldo must continue strengthening their efforts in trophy hunting management to ensure long-term benefits. Community participation, improved planning, and sustained conservation practices could transform the region into both an economic hub and an environmental success story.
