Vawda Says Faiz Hamid May Testify Against Imran Khan
Senator Faisal Vawda claimed that former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid is likely to testify against PTI founder Imran Khan. He said this development will increase legal pressure on the former prime minister, who is already facing several cases.
Vawda made these remarks during a talk show on Geo News. He said Faiz Hamid will also provide evidence against Imran Khan. According to him, the situation is now “very serious” for the PTI founder.
Earlier in the day, the Field General Court Martial sentenced Faiz Hamid to 14 years in prison. The military court found him guilty of taking part in political activities and violating the Official Secrets Act.
Vawda said Imran Khan is now stuck in a strong “legal squeeze” linked to the May 9 cases. The May 9 unrest took place in 2023 after Imran Khan’s arrest from the Islamabad High Court. During the riots, protesters attacked several military and government buildings, including the Corps Commander House in Lahore and the GHQ in Rawalpindi.
Vawda further alleged that sharing details of military installations before the May 9 events was Faiz Hamid’s responsibility. He said once things become clear, PTI and its founder will face the main consequences.
He also discussed former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa. Vawda said Bajwa showed “negligence and incompetence” but later tried to remove Faiz Hamid after understanding the situation. He added that Bajwa has now been considered “cleared” and no action will be taken against him.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also spoke on the same show. He said the May 9 events were a joint plan by Imran Khan and Faiz Hamid. He claimed the purpose was to stop the appointment of Field Marshal Asim Munir as the army chief.
Asif said Imran Khan could not have carried out the plan alone. He alleged that Faiz Hamid still had influence even after his retirement. He also said more cases could be filed if needed.
The minister added that the civilian authority to appoint the army chief has never been challenged before. He claimed that Bajwa earlier supported Faiz Hamid for the post and later suggested other names to change the process.
