Samsung may discontinue SSD models in 2026
Samsung may soon stop making its consumer SATA III SSDs because of a shortage of NAND flash memory.
According to industry reports, Samsung plans to end SATA SSD production after completing its current orders. The main reason is that most of the available NAND flash is now being used for data centres, AI labs, and large cloud companies. Because of this, less supply is left for regular users like PC gamers and home users.
Reports also say that Samsung is changing its factories in Pyeongtaek and Hwaseong to focus more on making DRAM instead of NAND flash. The new Pyeongtaek Fab 4 is expected to work only on DRAM using Samsung’s latest technology.
At the same time, Samsung has increased DDR5 memory prices by up to 60%. So far, the company has not released any official statement about stopping SATA SSD production.
If Samsung does stop making SATA SSDs, experts warn that these drives could become more expensive and harder to find. Limited stock is expected in late 2025 and early 2026.
Right now, SSD inventories are already very low, and it is not clear when the situation will improve.
