Iran, Cyprus Discuss Regional Security and Military Bases

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos held talks on regional security, with Araghchi emphasizing the importance of preventing foreign military bases in Cyprus from being used for hostile actions against Iran. He stressed the need to ensure that such facilities are not exploited by external forces to target the Islamic Republic.

Kombos reaffirmed Cyprus’ commitment to international law and the peaceful resolution of disputes. He said the Cypriot government had been in contact with the United Kingdom and had received assurances that the British military bases located in Cyprus would not be used against any country, including Iran.

During the conversation, Araghchi also briefed his Cypriot counterpart on the latest developments in Iran’s negotiations with Oman concerning the Strait of Hormuz, as well as recent progress in Tehran’s diplomatic relations with Ukraine and Bulgaria.
