Law enforcement agencies (LEAs) in Karachi have successfully thwarted an alleged suicide bombing plot by the banned Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) after rescuing a minor girl who was reportedly targeted and radicalised through social media.
According to officials, the child was approached by suspected BLA operatives via Instagram and other online platforms, where she was gradually influenced and groomed for a suicide attack. Authorities said the militant group used digital communication channels to manipulate the minor psychologically and push extremist narratives.
Security sources revealed that timely intelligence and coordinated action by LEAs led to the girl’s safe recovery before any harm could occur. The operation prevented a potentially devastating attack and highlighted the growing use of social media by extremist organisations to recruit and indoctrinate vulnerable individuals, particularly minors.
Officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those involved in the online radicalisation process. Digital evidence is reportedly being analysed to trace the networks and handlers who maintained contact with the girl.
The incident has raised serious concerns among security agencies about the misuse of social media platforms for terrorist recruitment. Authorities have reiterated the need for greater vigilance by parents, educators, and platform regulators to monitor online activity and report suspicious behaviour.
LEAs stressed that protecting children from extremist exploitation remains a top priority and warned that militant groups continue to adapt their tactics, increasingly turning to digital spaces to further their agendas.
