Prince Harry Issues Ultimatum in Royal Feud: Will He Apologize?
Prince Harry remained in the headlines throughout 2025, from his successes at the Invictus Games in Canada to a high-profile reunion with King Charles and various projects with Meghan Markle, but the year ended on a mixed note for the Duke of Sussex.
While Harry celebrated milestones, including a seemingly positive UK visit in September that included a meeting with his ailing father, he also faced significant setbacks. He stepped down as patron of his Sentebale charity and lost a Court of Appeal case seeking the reinstatement of his automatic police protection in the UK. Following the ruling, Harry admitted in a BBC interview that the decision had created a wedge between him and the King, describing it as a “good old-fashioned stitch up.”
Recently, tensions took a new turn as The Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) instructed its Risk Management Board to reassess Harry’s threat level, with a decision expected in the coming weeks.
Royal expert Jennie Bond described this as a potential turning point. “2026 could turn out to be a very good year for Harry. If his security review goes in his favour, he will feel that an obstacle to visiting the UK more often – and possibly bringing his children here – has been removed. It has also been a spanner in the works in his relationship with his father,” Bond told the Mirror.
Bond advised that Harry could gradually mend ties with King Charles by visiting him in person, working around the King’s busy diary, and keeping meetings private. “An apology to his father and his stepmother would also help – again, perhaps he has already done so, although I rather doubt it.”
However, reconciliation with his brother, Prince William, remains uncertain. Bond explained, “As for reconciling with William, that’s a much bigger ask. A parent can forgive a child far more readily than siblings tend to reconcile.”
Harry has expressed his desire to repair relationships with both his father and brother, hoping to have them “back in his life.” Yet, Bond warns that William may not feel the same, meaning that any thawing of the sibling rift could take considerable time, if it happens at all.
