Former Pakistan Cricketer Mohammad Ilyas Dies at 79
LAHORE, Pakistan (12 January 2026) — Former Pakistan Test cricketer and ex-chief selector Mohammad Ilyas passed away in Lahore at the age of 79 after a battle with cancer.
Ilyas represented Pakistan in 10 Test matches and played 82 first-class games during his career. Known for his contributions both on and off the field, he later served on multiple Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committees.
He also headed the Women’s Cricket selection panel, helping shape Pakistan’s women cricketers’ pathways at the national level.
Tributes have poured in from former teammates, cricket officials, and fans, remembering Ilyas for his dedication to Pakistani cricket.
