PMD Forecast: Winter Rains Expected in Lahore in January 2026

LAHORE: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted that a westerly wave will bring widespread winter rains and snowfall to many parts of Pakistan, including Lahore, in January 2026.

According to the latest forecast, the shallow westerly wave is expected to strengthen from 20th January and affect most parts of the country from 21st January.

Lahore and Other Cities to Receive Rain

Under this weather system, rain and thunderstorms are expected in districts of Lahore, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Sahiwal, Multan, Faisalabad, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur divisions from 20th to 23rd January, with occasional breaks.

Rains are also likely in Peshawar, Hazara, Malakand, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan during the same period.

Heavy Snowfall in Northern Areas

Heavy snowfall is expected from the night of 20th January to 23rd January in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Murree, Galliyat, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Haveli, and Rawalakot, with occasional gaps.

Rain in Balochistan and Sindh

Rain and thunderstorms are expected in Balochistan (including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Turbat, Gwadar, and others) on 21st and 22nd January.

In Sindh, cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mirpurkhas, and Ghotki may see rainfall on 22nd and 23rd January, again with occasional breaks.

The Met Office has advised people to stay prepared for winter weather conditions and possible disruptions due to rain and snowfall.
