Former, current Pakistani cricketers reportedly victims of US-based fraud
ISLAMABAD: Several former and current Pakistani cricketers are reportedly involved in an alleged fraud case, a source said on Friday. However, none of the players have filed a formal complaint yet.
Sources say that the cricketers have not approached the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for help. They had invested with a businessman who promised unusually high returns. Among the investors were both former and current national captains.
Some cricketers invested directly with the businessman. At first, they received substantial profits, but the businessman later disappeared, leaving investors unable to recover their full money.
Over several weeks, a few players tried to get their money back, with some reportedly receiving partial refunds. A well-known agent representing cricketers is also said to have lost money in the scheme.
The accused is based in the US and had personal connections with several Pakistani cricketers. He is reportedly unreachable, as his phone is switched off. He had been providing high monthly returns, but no payments have been made for the past two months.
Cricketers are eager to recover their investments, but they are currently unable to contact the person allegedly behind the fraud.
