Federal govt announces February 5 as public holiday – here’s the reason

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a nationwide public holiday on February 5, 2026, to observe Kashmir Day, according to an official notification issued by the Cabinet Division.

Kashmir Day is marked every year to show solidarity with the people of Kashmir and to highlight their struggle for the right to self-determination.

The notification confirmed that February 5 has been included in the list of national public holidays, along with important days such as Pakistan Day on March 23 and Independence Day on August 14.

On this day, government offices, educational institutions, and most private offices across the country will remain closed.
