Rising Cross-Border Terrorism From Afghanistan Alarms Regional States

04 February, 2026 12:17

The Afghan Taliban regime poses a serious threat to neighboring countries, having failed to curb terrorism despite their previous promises. Mounting evidence reveals frequent incidents of Afghan terrorists infiltrating surrounding nations.

According to The Times of Central Asia, three Afghan terrorists were killed and two escaped during a failed infiltration attempt on the Tajikistan border. A large quantity of drugs, arms, and ammunition was recovered from the terrorists. This follows an earlier incident on January 18, when Tajik security forces killed four Afghan terrorists attempting to cross the Sarcha Shamma border.

Since November last year, there has been a steady increase in terrorist activity along the Tajik-Afghan border. Furthermore, two Tajik security personnel were killed in a clash with Afghan terrorists in December 2025, and five Chinese workers were killed in two separate attacks originating from Afghanistan last year.

Security experts emphasize that cross-border terrorism from Afghanistan has become a critical challenge, making regional cooperation essential for prevention. Pakistan has repeatedly presented evidence of these threats to international organizations. Experts suggest that the international community must move beyond condemnation and take urgent, practical steps to halt terrorism emanating from Afghan soil.
