Nancy Guthrie Missing Case: New Encrypted Message Received, FBI and Over 100 Investigators Involved

07 February, 2026 11:31

The search for Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today Show host Savannah Guthrie, has taken a new turn as investigators received a fresh message in the ongoing missing-person case. Nancy was last seen at her Tucson, Arizona, home on January 31, 2026, and authorities believe she was abducted. A previous ransom note demanding millions in Bitcoin led to the arrest of a Southern California man, but the investigation continues.

According to News 13, the recent message was shared with law enforcement and appears to involve a new, encrypted IP address, unlike the one associated with the prior note. Officials believe the encrypted server may have been used to conceal the sender’s location. The FBI is actively involved, and a reward of USD 50,000 is being offered for information leading to Nancy Guthrie’s safe return. As the FBI statement reads:

“While this is one new piece of information, the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department are still asking anyone with tips to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. The FBI continues to offer a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the roadway in front of Nancy Guthrie’s home has been restricted while investigators conduct further checks. Authorities are also verifying the authenticity of the new message. Just a day prior, a trail of blood was discovered on the home’s front steps, later confirmed to belong to the author of the note.

Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed that he has been in contact with Savannah Guthrie through texts and calls. Over 100 people, spanning 5–10 agencies including the FBI, are currently involved in the investigation. The sheriff stated:

“It’s not just my department, and my department probably has 100 in themselves. You do have at least, probably five to 10 agencies within this jurisdictional area of Pima County, as well as the FBI and others, that are assigned and helping. I don’t have an [exact] number, but I know it’s over 100.”

Savannah Guthrie, along with her siblings Annie and Camron, previously released a video addressing the ransom note, emphasizing the need for verifiable proof of their mother’s safety. Savannah highlighted Nancy’s fragile health, stating that her mother has been without medication since going missing. Authorities, however, maintain that Nancy is believed to be alive, and the investigation remains active.
