Explosion at Biotech Firm in China’s Shanxi Kills Eight
China’s state media said on Sunday that eight individuals were killed in an explosion that occurred early Saturday at a tiny biotech company in northern China.
According to official media, the explosion happened early on Saturday morning in Shuoyang, in the Shanxi province.
According to Xinhua news agency, the city has established an accident investigation team and detained Jiapeng Biotechnology’s legal representative.
According to Xinhua, thick yellow smoke was observed rising from the accident site, and the company is situated in a mountain depression.
The business does not have a website, so Reuters was unable to get in touch with it. It was not immediately apparent what caused the alleged explosion.
According to its company registration, Jiapeng Biotechnology was established in June 2025 and carries out research on building materials, coal products, and animal feed.
