Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping: Carlos Palazeulos Named Suspect, Not Tommaso Cioni
Nearly two weeks after 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie vanished from her Arizona home, the investigation into her disappearance continues to raise questions. Savannah Guthrie’s mother was last seen on the night of January 31, 2026 (ET) by her daughter, Annie Guthrie, and son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni. Recently, the FBI released photos and videos of a masked person of interest and an unmasked individual captured outside Nancy’s home a week before the abduction.
Is Carlos Palazeulos a Suspect?
Carlos Palazuelos, a 36-year-old delivery driver from Rio Rico, Arizona, was detained by law enforcement south of Tucson and questioned regarding Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. Authorities searched his home and vehicle as part of the investigation. After several hours, he was released without charges. When asked in an interview with journalist Matt Finn whether Carlos is a suspect, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said he was released at the time because there was “no reason” to detain him, though he did not confirm whether he had been officially cleared.
Sheriff Addresses the Family’s Involvement
Sheriff Nanos emphasized that no one, including Nancy Guthrie’s family, has been officially cleared in the investigation. He stated that the family has been “100% completely” cooperative but clarified that “nobody is ever really eliminated” until the investigation is complete. This statement comes amid viral online theories suggesting that Annie Guthrie or Tommaso Cioni could be involved, although neither the FBI nor local authorities have named any official suspects.
Latest Developments in the Investigation
Investigators have recovered DNA from Nancy’s property that does not belong to her or anyone in her immediate family. The evidence is being analyzed at a private lab in Florida. Current investigative focus remains on the masked, armed suspect captured on Nancy’s doorbell camera. Public speculation initially centered on Tommaso Cioni, citing the masked figure’s build and facial hair. Attention later shifted to Dominic Evans, Tommaso’s Early Black bandmate, as social media users noted similarities in height, build, facial hair, and a possible wrist tattoo.
Despite these leads, no updates have emerged regarding Nancy Guthrie’s whereabouts, and the family continues to hope for news on her safe return.
