Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi expressed his frustration with the national team following their crushing 61-run defeat against India in the T20 World Cup. Pakistan failed to chase India’s target of 176 on Sunday, collapsing for just 114 runs in 18 overs after India posted 175/7. The one-sided nature of the loss has sparked heavy criticism from fans and former players alike, with Afridi leading the charge by highlighting several tactical blunders.

Speaking to a private TV channel, Afridi remarked that India deserved the win and questioned the leadership of Captain Salman Ali Agha. He was particularly confused by the decision to “hide” mystery spinner Usman Tariq—whom the team had labeled as their “trump card”—until the 11th over. Afridi also criticized Shaheen Afridi’s performance, noting that despite an expensive start, the pacer was still given the final over while Faheem Ashraf remained an unused bowling option.

In a bold call for a squad overhaul, the former captain suggested that if it were up to him, he would drop senior players Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, and Babar Azam to provide opportunities for fresh talent. He concluded that since these veterans are consistently failing to perform against major teams, the “new guys” should be given a chance in the upcoming match against Namibia.
