Pakistan to Host Multiple International Hockey Events in Next Six Months

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) President Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani has said the country is witnessing an increase in international hockey activity, with several foreign teams and major events expected to visit Pakistan in the coming months.

Speaking about the federation’s plans, Mohyuddin Wani said the China hockey team will visit Pakistan in November following its tour of South Korea.

He said China would be followed by the Canadian hockey team, which is also expected to tour Pakistan.

European Teams Also Expected

The PHF president said three European teams are also ready to visit Pakistan, which would further increase international hockey activity in the country.

He said Pakistan is also planning to host a major 10-nation international hockey event in December next year.

According to Wani, the federation is additionally working on plans to organise a hockey league in Pakistan next year.

PHF Seeks Asian Champions Trophy Relocation

Speaking about the Asian Hockey Champions Trophy, Wani said the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) has the authority to move the tournament from India to a neutral venue.

He said the Pakistan Hockey Federation has already requested the AHF to relocate the tournament from India, but the continental governing body has yet to give Pakistan a final response.

Wani said the PHF understands the rules and regulations governing the decision and has formally presented Pakistan’s position to the Asian Hockey Federation.

He added that the country’s honour and dignity remain the top priority for Pakistan.
