Russia warns: US strike on Iran could have major Consequences
Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned that any new “US strike” on Iran would have serious consequences and make tensions worse. He urged restraint and said leaders should look for a solution that allows Tehran to continue a peaceful nuclear program.
Lavrov spoke in an interview with Saudi TV channel Al‑Arabiya that was shared on the Russian Foreign Ministry website. He said, “The consequences are not good.” He noted that there have already been strikes on Iranian nuclear sites under the control of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and that these posed real risks of a nuclear accident.
He also warned that rising tensions could undo recent improvements in relations between Iran and neighbouring countries, especially Saudi Arabia. “No one wants an increase in tension. Everyone understands this is playing with fire,” Lavrov added.
Israel on High Alert
Meanwhile, Israel has been on high alert because of the possibility of a US attack on Iran. Israeli media reported that defence and emergency agencies were given advisories, and citizens were told to stay close to bunkers. Israel has also warned its people about possible missile strikes from Iran.
US and Nuclear Talks
The United States has issued new warnings to Iran after a second round of indirect nuclear talks ended in Geneva without a major breakthrough. The US says it wants Iran to agree to terms that would limit its nuclear capabilities, but differences remain. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “Iran would be very wise to make a deal.” She added that while some progress was made, “we’re still very apart on some issues.”
US President Donald Trump, who has sent two aircraft carriers and many troops to the Gulf region, also wrote on social media that if Iran refuses a deal, the US might need to use other military bases in the Indian Ocean “in order to eradicate a potential attack by a highly unstable and dangerous Regime.”
Iran and Russia Naval Drills
In response to rising tensions, Iran and Russia have announced joint naval drills in the Sea of Oman. Iranian Rear Admiral Hassan Maqsoudlou said the exercises were meant “to convey a message of peace and friendship to regional countries.” He also said the drills were “also aimed at preventing any unilateral action in the region” and improving cooperation against threats to maritime security.
