Eric Dane, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Actor, Dies at 53 After ALS Struggle

Grey Anatomy star Eric Dane dies at age of 53 after so much struggle ALS. In April 2025, Eric Dane openly revealed that he had been diagnosed with (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis – ASL), also known as ALS and Lou Gehrig’s disease. It’s a deadly disease that disturbs the nervous system.

On Thursday evening, February 19, 2026 USA TODAY got the confirmation about Dane’s death by his colleague, Melissa Bank.

‘With heavy hearts, we share that Eric Dane passed on Thursday afternoon following a courageous battle with ALS.’

The statement said. ‘He spent his final days surrounded by dear friends, his devoted wife, and his two beautiful daughters, Billie and Georgia, who were the center of his world.’

Further said, “Throughout his journey with ALS, Eric became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight.”

‘He will be deeply missed, and lovingly remembered always,” the statement concluded. “Eric adored his fans and is forever grateful for the outpouring of love and support he’s received. The family has asked for privacy as they navigate this impossible time.’

While Dane’s career crossed years, with courageous, commended performance in Euphoria and a leading role in The Last Ship, it was his entrance on Grey’s Anatomy that tiled his status as a TV icon. His depiction of the confident yet complex Mark Sloan earned him a massive global fan base.

Lastly Dane is survived by his wife, actress and model Rebecca Gayheart and their teen daughters Billie and Georgia.
