Karachi Youm-e-Ali Juloos 2026: Check Route, Traffic & Security Plan for March 11

10 March, 2026 15:18

Karachi is preparing for Youm-e-Ali 2026, which will be observed on Wednesday, March 11. The day marks the martyrdom of Ali ibn Abi Talib (R.A.) on 21st Ramadan 1447 AH.

The Sindh Government has announced a public holiday for all schools and colleges across the province. Both public and private educational institutions will remain closed in cities including Karachi, Hyderabad, and Sukkur. The holiday allows people to attend religious gatherings and helps authorities manage traffic and security.

However, government offices and most private businesses will remain open, as there is no full public holiday across the province.

Central Procession Route

The main Youm-e-Ali procession (juloos) in Karachi will follow its traditional route. It will start from Nishtar Park around 1:00 PM after the central majlis. From there, participants will move toward Numaish Chowrangi and then continue along M. A. Jinnah Road.

During the procession, participants will offer Zuhrain prayers on M.A. Jinnah Road near Imambargah Ali Raza. The procession will end in the evening at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah.

Traffic Plan

Because of the large number of participants, several roads will be closed. M.A. Jinnah Road will remain closed for general traffic from Guru Mandir to Tower.

Traffic restrictions will also be in place in Saddar, especially around Empress Market and Regal Chowk.

Authorities have announced traffic diversions:

  • Vehicles from Nazimabad will move through Lasbela toward Garden and Nishtar Road.

  • Traffic from Liaquatabad will divert from Teen Hatti toward Lasbela.

  • Vehicles on Sharea Faisal heading to Numaish will use Kashmir Road or Sharea Quaideen.

Security Arrangements

Security will be tight for Youm-e-Ali 2026. More than 22,000 police personnel will be deployed across Sindh, with about 7,900 officers in Karachi.

Snipers will be placed on tall buildings along the route, and over 1,000 CCTV cameras will monitor the procession from the Central Police Office and Civic Center.

A three-layer security system will surround the main procession. Walk-through gates and security checks will be mandatory for participants. Quick Response Teams will remain on alert, and extra security will be provided at major hospitals. Authorities have also placed a temporary ban on pillion riding in Karachi for 24 hours.

Importance of Youm-e-Ali

Youm-e-Ali marks the martyrdom of Ali ibn Abi Talib (R.A.), the fourth Caliph of Islam and the first Imam for Shia Muslims. He was injured by a poison-coated sword during prayers at the Great Mosque of Kufa on the 19th of Ramadan and passed away on the 21st of Ramadan.

Police and city authorities say all arrangements have been finalized to ensure the safe and peaceful Youm-e-Ali procession in Karachi on March 11, 2026.
