Punjab to Upgrade Crime Control Department into Premier Investigation Agency

10 March, 2026 23:39

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a comprehensive overhaul of the Crime Control Department (CCD), transforming it into a Premier Investigation Agency (PIA) aimed at strengthening crime prevention and boosting public confidence in law enforcement.

Under the new plan, the department’s mandate will be significantly expanded by adopting operational models similar to those used by leading international crime-control agencies. The revamped CCD will be equipped with modern forensic technology, advanced investigative systems, artificial intelligence-based software, intelligence surveillance tools, and other state-of-the-art equipment, making it one of the most technologically advanced law enforcement institutions in Pakistan.

The chief minister has also approved the establishment of a fully equipped CCD headquarters. Additionally, offices, police stations, and residential facilities for officers will be developed in every division, district, and tehsil across Punjab. Authorities say officers will be provided with advanced monitoring tools to better track criminal activity and improve investigative outcomes.

As part of the broader security strategy, the government will launch a campaign against illegal firearms after Eid-ul-Fitr. Officials say ongoing efforts have already resulted in noticeable declines in crime, including reductions in murder cases and crimes against women. Incidents such as robberies, mobile and bag snatching, vehicle theft, attempted murder, and kidnapping for ransom have also reportedly decreased compared with the previous year.

The Punjab government is also working on new legislation aimed at curbing illegal weapons. Meanwhile, the CCD has been tasked with tackling acid attacks and other forms of violence against women.

In addition, authorities plan to establish a modern crime research center to assist investigations and develop new strategies for reducing criminal activity across the province.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the initiative is intended to modernize law enforcement, improve public safety, and set new standards for crime control and investigative efficiency in Punjab.
