Why Did Luka Doncic And Anamaria Goltes Call Off Their Engagement? What We Know so Far

11 March, 2026 09:17

Luka Dončić, the star guard of the Los Angeles Lakers, has confirmed that he and his long-time fiancée Anamaria Goltes have ended their engagement. The news came after weeks of speculation about problems in their relationship.

In a statement shared with ESPN on Tuesday, Dončić confirmed that the couple had decided to separate. He said the decision was mainly related to family challenges and the difficulty of living in different countries while raising their children.

Dončić explained that his daughters remain his top priority. He said he wants to spend more time with them in the United States during the NBA season, but the situation has been complicated. The basketball star added that everything he does is focused on giving his daughters a better life.

The couple share two daughters together. Their first daughter, Gabriela, was born in November 2023. Their second daughter, Olivia, was born in December 2025 in Slovenia. Reports say Goltes moved back to Slovenia with the children in 2025.

The situation became more public after reports revealed that Goltes had filed a petition for child support. According to documents obtained by TMZ Sports, the filing focuses on financial support for the children and also asks for legal fee coverage. The documents do not request custody orders.

Reports suggest the conflict between the couple increased around the time their second daughter was born on December 15, 2025. Dončić had traveled to Slovenia for the birth and missed a Lakers game against the Toronto Raptors to be present.

During that visit, a disagreement reportedly took place at the hospital. Local police were called to calm the situation, but no criminal charges were filed. According to reports, that moment was one of the last times Dončić saw his daughters in person.

Despite the personal challenges, Dončić has continued to perform strongly in the NBA. The Slovenian star is currently among the league’s top scorers and is helping the Lakers push toward the playoffs.

Dončić and Goltes had been together for many years. The two met as children in Croatia and officially started dating in 2016. Their relationship continued even as Dončić’s basketball career grew internationally.

In July 2023, Dončić proposed to Goltes during a trip to Slovenia. The proposal date, July 7, was chosen to match his famous jersey number 77.

After nearly a decade together and building a family, the couple have now decided to go their separate ways. Fans across the NBA world have reacted with surprise, as Goltes was often seen supporting Dončić during games throughout his career.
