Sindh Announces Public Holiday on March 13 in Observance of Jumma-tul-Wida

12 March, 2026 19:21

The Sindh government has declared a public holiday across the province on Friday, March 13, as part of the observance of Jumma-tul-Wida, the last Friday of Ramadan. The announcement was made through an official notification issued by the services department on Thursday.

According to the notification, all government offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the provincial government will remain closed on the said day. However, essential services will continue without interruption.

The decision follows a statement made by Sindh Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, who confirmed the public holiday in honor of Jumma-tul-Wida.

In addition to the holiday, the Sindh government had previously introduced a work-from-home policy for Fridays, in line with its broader austerity and fuel conservation efforts. This move is part of a national savings initiative outlined by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to address economic challenges.

The announcement also comes amid ongoing disruptions to the country’s supply chains, particularly in light of rising tensions in the Middle East, which have impacted the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route.
