Prince William Brings Homewards Campaign to Bournemout
The Prince of Wales joined an international delegation from five countries in Bournemouth to showcase the work of his ambitious Homewards initiative.
Prince William arrived at Bournemouth Pier on Thursday morning, March 18, launched his Homewards project, which aims to develop a blueprint for eradicating homelessness in all its forms, in 2023.
Representatives from Australia, Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands and Finland travelled to the UK to visit the BCP operation, which is seen as a flagship of the charity’s centres.
The prince focused a long term on this major campaign, who has told how visiting shelters with his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales, when he was a child left a deep and lasting impression and inspired his work.
The future king walked the length of the pier, past unsuspicious travelers and dog walkers, quickly drawing a crowd holding camera phones upward.
A huge crowd twisted out to see the royal and wave him off with Prince William stopping momentarily to take a selfie with a family of supporters.
Prince William then visited The Bourne Academy to discuss the role early education can play in avoiding youth homelessness.
The royal outing had a bold side when three young well-wishers Lily, her brother William, and their cousin Eva called out to him with a bouquet in hand.
William thanked them, joking about the unexpected gift.
Asked to rate Bournemouth out of 10, he replied it’s “lovely,” especially when the sun shows up.
He kept a promise to Lily by stopping for a selfie on his way back, wrapping up the visit on a warm, personal note.
