EU Urges Houthi Militia to Halt Red Sea Attacks, Stresses Freedom of Navigation

The European Union has called on the Houthi militia in Yemen to immediately stop its attacks in the Red Sea, warning that the assaults pose a serious threat to international shipping and global maritime law. The bloc urged the Houthi militia to cease actions that endanger commercial vessels and undermine the security of key international waterways.

Speaking on the issue, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stressed the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation in both the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, saying uninterrupted maritime traffic is vital for regional and global stability. The EU also expressed concern that the ongoing Saudi naval blockade is contributing to tensions and posing a risk to peace and security in the region.

The statement came after the Houthi militia claimed responsibility for targeting two Saudi oil tankers. The European Union reiterated its call on all parties to avoid further escalation and to ensure the safety and security of international shipping routes.
