Karachi Airport on High Alert as Thunderstorm Threats Continue Across Sindh

26 March, 2026 23:21

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has issued an update regarding a powerful thunderstorm system expected to hit Sindh, including Karachi, bringing potentially dangerous weather conditions until March 29.

Authorities at Jinnah International Airport have been instructed to remain on high alert to safeguard passengers and ensure smooth operations. Runways will be closely inspected, drainage channels cleared, and bird and insect control measures—including shooters and fumigation—are being deployed to prevent accidents.

The Met Office reported that intermittent rain has already affected several cities in Sindh. Karachi residents can expect light rain and drizzle on Friday, with possible thunderstorms and strong winds in some areas. A brief lull is anticipated on March 27, while heavier rain is forecast to return on March 28 and 29. Temperatures are expected to reach 32°C, with humidity at 79% and winds at 11 km/h.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a nationwide thunderstorm warning, cautioning citizens about rainfall with gusty winds and hailstorms across all four provinces. Flood warnings have been issued for several regions, including Turbat, Kech, Gwadar, Khuzdar, Zhob, and Lasbela in Balochistan, and Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Parachinar, Peshawar, Mardan, and Swabi in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Residents are being strongly advised to take precautions, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay updated as the severe weather situation develops.
