Trump Pauses Iran Energy Strikes for 10 Days as Talks Show Progress

27 March, 2026 11:24

WASHINGTON, March 27, 2026: US President Donald Trump has announced a temporary pause in attacks on Iranian energy facilities for 10 days, saying that ongoing talks with Iran are going “very well.” The pause will remain in effect until April 6, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. EDT.

The decision comes after weeks of rising tensions that began on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran following failed negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear program. Since then, the conflict has caused heavy damage, loss of lives, and instability across the region.

Speaking during a cabinet meeting at the White House, Trump said the US is open to a deal but warned that pressure could increase if Iran does not cooperate. Later, he repeated on social media that discussions are moving in a positive direction and dismissed negative media reports.

US Defense Secretary Pat Hegseth also expressed hope for a peaceful outcome. He said the US public wants an end to the conflict and added that Washington’s goal is to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons. He also claimed that Iran’s naval and air defense systems have been weakened during recent strikes.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that Iranian retaliation has targeted several US military bases in the Middle East. According to international media, many US personnel have been moved from bases to temporary locations such as hotels and office buildings for safety.

Some of the worst damage was reported in Kuwait, where a US tactical operations center at Port Shuwaib was destroyed. The attack reportedly killed six American service members. Iranian drones and missiles also hit facilities like Ali Al-Salem Air Base and other sites in Qatar, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia.

Due to the situation, many US bases are no longer fully active. Ground operations are now being handled remotely, while only essential staff such as pilots and maintenance crews remain at key locations.

The situation remains tense, but the temporary pause in attacks has raised hopes for possible progress in diplomatic talks between the US and Iran.
