Pakistan lowers speed limits on motorways and highways to save fuel
ISLAMABAD: The National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP) has announced new speed limits for vehicles across the country. This step has been taken to save fuel as part of the government’s austerity measures.
Officials said the new rules will help reduce fuel use while keeping roads safe. The NHMP has asked drivers to follow these limits to support the country and avoid fines.
Speed Limits on Motorways
According to the new rules, cars and light transport vehicles (LTVs) can now travel up to 100 km/h on motorways. Passenger service vehicles (PSVs) and heavy transport vehicles (HTVs) can go up to 90 km/h.
Speed Limits on Highways
On highways, cars and LTVs can drive up to 80 km/h. PSVs and HTVs have a lower limit of 65 km/h.

A day earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif rejected a proposal to increase petrol and diesel prices. He said the government understands the financial problems faced by people.
In a TV address, he shared that the government is giving a subsidy of Rs 56 billion this week. He explained that petrol should cost Rs 544 per litre based on global prices, but it is being sold at Rs 322. Diesel should be Rs 790, but people are getting it at Rs 335.
The prime minister said the government has already spent Rs 125 billion to support people during the fuel crisis. He added that although this money could be used for development projects, helping citizens is the top priority.
He also requested people to save fuel in their daily lives by driving carefully and reducing unnecessary travel.
