PCB Slaps Severe Penalty on Naseem Shah for Viral Maryam Nawaz Tweet

Pakistan’s young fast bowler. He is at the center after his opening match as he tweeted from his official twitter account about Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, as she was a guest of honour at the match and despite crowd not being allowed, she attended the match with her family. The post was a quote retweet of a PCB media post showing Chairman Naqvi greeting Ms Nawaz. In the tweet he questioned the VIP protocol and special treatment she received despite restrictions on public attendance, asking, “Why is she treated like the queen at Lords? This criticized by Naseem Shah on his X account drew significant attention. The tweet started a debate on social media despite being live for only 14 minutes. It was deleted later on, and claiming that: “The official account of Naseem Shah was hacked but has now been successfully recovered.”

Despite the clarification, the PCB called Naseem up over it and swiftly delivered the fine. The board, of course, is relying on clauses in Naseem’s central contract which bind him to a code of conduct.The PCB confirms he was fined 20 million Pakistani rupees (2 crore) for multiple violations of his central contract.

Following an investigation, The Board stated that the fast bowler was found guilty.

Days after the controversy, Shah has now issued an apology, by taking full responsibility and promising that such an incident won’t happen again from his side.

On his X account, Shah wrote: “A recent post from my account was made by my management team and does not reflect my views. I take full responsibility for my platform and have implemented the necessary changes to ensure this does not happen again. I sincerely apologise to everyone affected by this misuse of my platform.”

According to the statement, even after considering his conditional apology, the PCB firm that he had penetrated some sections of his contract. In addition to the fine, Naseem Shah has dismissed his social media advisor, whom the PCB has now blacklisted and barred from working with any professional player in the future.
