‘Ridiculous’: Iran Navy Chief Rejects Trump’s Threat to Block Strait of Hormuz

Iran’s Navy commander Shahram Irani has dismissed US President Donald Trump’s threat to impose a naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz, calling the move “ridiculous and laughable.”
In a statement carried by Iranian media, the commander said Iran’s naval forces are closely monitoring all movements of US military assets in the region and remain fully prepared.
Iran Responds to US Blockade Threat
The remarks came after Trump announced that he had ordered the US Navy to block the Strait of Hormuz—a key global shipping route through which nearly 20 percent of the world’s oil supply passes.
Trump also warned that any vessel paying transit tolls to Iran could be intercepted in international waters.
Iranian officials strongly rejected the warning, insisting that the waterway falls within Iran’s strategic control and cannot be dictated by foreign powers.
Tensions Rise After Failed Islamabad Talks
The escalation follows high-level negotiations between Iran and the United States in Islamabad, which ended without a breakthrough.
US Vice President JD Vance, who led the American delegation, said the outcome now depends on Iran accepting Washington’s “final” proposal.
However, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the US of adopting a rigid stance, claiming that a deal was close but ultimately derailed.
Iran Tightens Control Over Key Waterway
Since the conflict began, Iran has imposed restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz, allowing passage only to vessels from friendly nations while limiting access to others.
Iran’s parliament is also reviewing proposals to introduce transit fees in national currency and impose stricter controls on foreign vessels.
Military Pressure and Regional Impact
The situation remains tense as both sides continue to exchange strong rhetoric. Iran has highlighted its military capabilities, including missile and drone operations targeting US and allied positions in the region.
Meanwhile, the US has acknowledged casualties and equipment losses, adding to the urgency of diplomatic efforts.
