Ghalibaf Mocks Trump Over Hormuz Blockade, Warns of Rising Fuel Prices

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf statement after talks
Iran’s parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has criticized US President Donald Trump after the announcement of a naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
On Monday, April 13, 2026, he warned that the move could lead to a sharp increase in global fuel prices and create more pressure on ordinary people.
In a message shared on social media platform X, Ghalibaf made a sarcastic comment about fuel costs. He told people to enjoy current petrol prices, saying that after the blockade, even higher prices could become normal. His remarks came soon after the United States decided to move forward with the blockade plan.
Enjoy the current pump figures. With the so-called ‘blockade’, Soon you’ll be nostalgic for $4–$5 gas.

The tension increased after recent peace talks between Iran and the United States held in Islamabad failed to produce a final agreement. Ghalibaf, who played a role in these discussions, said Iran had shown positive intent and offered useful proposals during the talks. He claimed these efforts helped move the dialogue forward, even though deep mistrust still exists between both countries.
Speaking to reporters after returning to Tehran, Ghalibaf said Iran would not be pressured by threats. He made it clear that the country is ready to respond strongly if needed. At the same time, he said Iran is open to logical discussions if the other side is willing to engage in a fair way. He stressed that the Iranian nation would not bow down to pressure and is prepared to defend its position.
Ghalibaf also dismissed the US warnings, saying they would not have any real impact on Iran. According to Iranian media, he believes such actions are not effective and will not change Iran’s stance. His strong comments reflect growing tension after the US decision to block the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key route for global oil transport. Any disruption there can quickly affect fuel prices around the world. Experts warn that the situation could lead to higher energy costs and more instability in global markets if tensions continue to rise.
